Pakuranga, Auckland
Wearthy collaborated with New Shoots Children's Centre to design and build a nature-based playground at their Pakuranga centre in Auckland. The design transforms the outdoor environment into an immersive play landscape that supports the centre's play-based learning philosophy, with curved pathways guiding children through distinct zones filled with natural materials and lush plantings.
Winding coloured concrete pathways and timber boardwalks connect the space, while large stone boulders, bark mulch areas, and gravel zones provide varied textures underfoot. Tropical plantings including palm trees and red-leafed foliage are woven throughout the garden beds. A circular raised timber seating bench creates a gathering point, rope-wrapped timber posts offer climbing challenges, and a timber pergola extending from the building provides shade across the play areas.
