Inclusive & All Abilities Playground Design

Play spaces where every child belongs

Designing Playgrounds Where Every Child Belongs

At Wearthy, we believe every child deserves rich, challenging, and joyful play experiences. Our inclusive playground designs go beyond basic accessibility to create shared environments where children of all abilities play together — not alongside each other in separate spaces. This is the difference between accessible design and truly inclusive design.

With 200+ playgrounds delivered across Australia, we've built environments that serve diverse communities. Our approach draws on inclusive design principles — graduated challenge, sensory balance, clear wayfinding, and shared experiences — to create outdoor spaces where every child can participate meaningfully.

Inclusive Design Principles

Graduated Challenge

Equipment with multiple difficulty levels so every child can participate. Low-level balance beams alongside higher ones, gentle slopes beside steeper climbs, and varied grip options on climbing structures.

Shared Experiences

Play elements designed for children to enjoy together regardless of ability. Side-by-side swings, group spinning elements, collaborative sand and water play, and wide platforms for social interaction.

Sensory Balance

A range of sensory environments from calming to stimulating. Quiet retreat gardens, active climbing zones, and transitional spaces that allow children to self-regulate and choose their level of input.

Physical Access

Wheelchair-accessible pathways, transfer platforms, ground-level play elements, and inclusive surfacing that allows mobility aids. Every play zone is reachable by every child.

Clear Wayfinding

Intuitive layouts with visual cues, textured pathways, colour contrast, and clear sightlines. Children with diverse cognitive and sensory needs can navigate the space independently and safely.

Nature for All

Natural elements — gardens, water, sand, timber — that provide rich play experiences regardless of ability. Nature is inherently inclusive, offering open-ended play that adapts to each child.
